Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will be made payable from day one of a sickness period, under emergency legislation that is to be introduced as part of measures related to the coronavirus, according to a press release issued by the DWP. Currently, SSP is not payable for the first three qualifying days in any period of entitlement

Is intended to promote compliance with any instructions given to workers to self-isolate on account of coronavirus, and
will be a temporary measure to respond to the outbreak and will lapse when it is no longer required
